How The Pros Evaluate a Stain (3 Important Questions)
When a customer brings their vehicle into Glosswerxs to remove a stain, we typically ask them three questions. These include:
- How long has the stain been there?
- What was the stain caused by?
- Have you tried cleaning it yourself?
These questions help us determine the kind of stain we are dealing with. It also tells us how much we can get out. More importantly, it tells us the steps we will have to take to remove it.
Steps for Properly Removing a Stain at Glosswerxs
Step 1: Deep Vacuum
The first step of a stain removal is a deep vacuum. Whether it’s on a floor mat or a seat, we remove all the dirt and debris in the area as much as possible. This helps us get into the area as much as possible.
Step 2: Soak with a Fabric Cleaner
Afterwards, we soak the area with a fabric cleaner. We typically allow the fabric cleaner to sit between two to five hours. This lets the cleaner soak into the fabric and work as much as possible. Then, we agitate the stain with a soft bristle drill brush to break down the stain best we can.
Power Washing the Floor Mats
If the stain is on a floor mat, we use a power washer to wash the stain out along with all the dirt and dust trapped inside the mat’s fibers. You’d be surprised how long it takes for the water dripping off the mat to look clear.
Step 3: Extractor
After this step we use our extractor. This is a vacuum that sprays clean, hot water into the fabric that’s then extracted into the chamber along with the fabric cleaner. This allows us to remove any liquid from the carpet or seat.
Step 4: Drying
Finally, we dry the stain area. We place a couple fans inside the vehicle to fully air out the area. In the case of floor mats, they are placed directly in front of a large fan to reach the same effect.
If this step isn’t done, after a while, any liquid still in the fibers will slowly evaporate, leaving the inside of the windows wet which can then cause mold.
In the cases of stain removal where an extractor is needed, these can usually take between four to six hours. We do suggest that it is left overnight to fully dry and depending how long a stain has been there we are able to remove it 100% but we guarantee it will be clean.
